In March 2024, we held a series of exhibitions at Northside Primary School to provide an update to the local community about the plans for the redevelopment of the Lodge Lane car park site as well as the broader North Finchley Masterplan. This consultation reflected on the feedback previously received and presented the emerging proposals.
Over the three days, 237 people attended the exhibitions, and 121 of those left feedback. We have summarised some of the key points below:
- The regeneration of North Finchley town centre was broadly supported in principle, and it was recognised that this would bring new amenities including more retail options.
- The proposals for the high street were considered to help increase sense of safety within the town centre, especially in the evening.
- Attendees understood the importance of promoting sustainable transport measures and wanted to see connectivity improved within the town centre.
- Car parking provision at Lodge Lane was raised. Following a review of current car parks, the quantum being re-provided at Lodge Lane seeks to meet the identified demand whilst maintaining wider capacity within the town centre.
- Clarifications were sought regarding the proposed building heights for the Lodge Lane Car Park site proposal. The proposed massing and building heights seek to sensitively respond to the surrounding context with the tallest element located nearest the High Road.
In addition, a range of local groups and stakeholders joined the public consultation to view the plans including members of the Finchley Society, Lodge Lane Residents Association and St Kilda’s United Services Club (USC). Follow up meetings were also held with local stakeholder groups and societies.
A further public consultation will be held in the summer, to provide a further update on the proposals prior to the formal submission of the two planning applications. Further details of this will be provided in due course.
